Our intern Sharon imagining a conversation with Jules, a central character to one of our new releases The Family Album by Kerry Kelly.

Jules: Listen up, Intern. The world is not kind to publishing students who wave the individualist flag. Not if you want people to like you, so, you don’t get to just walk around and read whatever you want to read this summer.

Intern: Actually, Jules, I do. The Marketing Co-ordinator at Dundurn Press said I could review whatever I want, so, I’m starting my summer reads list Kerry Kelly’s novel, The Family Album, and here’s why. Listen up, kid.

1. Just like your little half-sister, I’ll decide what I want to read for myself letting my choices be, “proof of how much I’ve accomplished.” even if she’s the reason your parents aren’t together anymore.

2. Your cheating dad actually said, “I’m going to opt out of being unhappy when I get the chance. I think it’s time [we both] gave up that crap for good.” Don’t you, Jules?

3. I’m going to credit your jilted mom at every dinner party where someone asks me what I do and then of course what I’m reading and l’ll liken the delicacy of making a mixed tape with putting a quality summer reading list together.

To the Wilkes family, thank you for inviting me into your lives as your second most unlikely protégé.

Join us for the book launch of The Family Album by Kerry Kelly at The Old Nick Pub on Thursday June 28th at 7 pm!
